About Ithaca Restaurant:
If you’ve read the Odyssey by Homer, you may have heard of Ithaca, the famous Greek island and home to an even more famous mythical hero. Well, this was the inspiration behind the Ithaca restaurant, which serves traditional Greek and other Mediterranean dishes in a pleasant atmosphere.
Ithaca is on 5308 Highway 7 East, in Markham, Ontario. There is a small parking lot for cars only nearby, and the place is wheelchair accessible. There is no TV and no Wi-Fi, but there is a big outside seating area. This place can accommodate a large group of people and is welcoming to children. You can make a reservation for a table to dine in, or you can order takeout and have your food delivered.
The menu is traditional Greek, prepared by a professional chef with very competent kitchen staff. They serve lunch and dinner and are open every day from 11 AM to 10 PM, no exceptions. Ithaca has been reviewed online on Yelp, Google Reviews, Trip Advisor and other websites. I’ve used these reviews to find out what the patrons consider as pros and cons of the Ithaca Restaurant.
- Great interior
- Excellent menu choices
- Pleasant dining atmosphere
- Fresh ingredients
- Large portions
- Poor customer support
- Notes about staff
The Ithaca restaurant has been in business since 2010, serving a mix of Greek and other Mediterranean dishes to the Markham community. The interior screams Greek, with cream-coloured walls and blue murals featuring life on the Greek islands, low divider walls that remind of traditional Greek streets and a lot of white and blue colours throughout the restaurant.
There is even a fountain inside the restaurant as well as a gas-fired fireplace. The tables have blue tablecloths with sparkling white over-cloths and colourful chairs. The walls have historical scenes and murals painted on them, and a lot of traditional pottery items for décor on the shelves. The patio is large and nicely done, with a lot of potted plants that are usually found in Greece like geraniums and oleanders.
The menu is divided into a lunch and dinner menu: lunch is served from Monday to Friday from 11.00 AM to 4 PM, with a take-out menu that can be delivered from 5 to 10 PM. The lunch menu offers cold and hot appetisers like tzatziki, hummus, saganaki, spinach pie, excellent salads like Greek (obviously), seafood, light delights like gyro and burgers, and entrees like gyros, souvlaki, mousaka, seafood and pasta dishes.
The dinner menu has hot appetisers like mussels, dolmadakia, escargots, kalamarakia, saganaki, cold appetisers like hummus, taramosalata, and tzatziki, a lot of salad choices, gyros, souvlaki, pasta dishes, lamb dishes, grilled meats, seafood meals, and meat platter dinners.
The restaurant serves alcohol, and especially popular is the Greek ouzo, along with a wine list that is specially selected to complement the food served here. The Ithaca Restaurant is a popular place for anniversaries and celebrations, the beautifully cooked and presented food, and the exciting décor are always attracting people.
