Barrie is a city in Ontario, Canada about one hour north of Toronto on the shore of Lake Simcoe. It is known for its waterfront, beaches and proximity to outdoor activities year-round. By Kempfield Bay you can see the “Spirit Catcher” - a large, birdlike sculpture on the waterfront. The Simcoe County Museum has local history displays, including a furnished 1920s cottage.
Barrie has a number of restaurants, bars and a few nightclubs and some of the best Barrie restaurants can be found close to the waterfront on Dunlop St. and more on Bayfield St. that intersects Dunlop at the Five Corners that forms the centre of Barrie. Hotels are mostly close to where Highway 400 crosses through Barrie, particularly around Dunlop St. and Essa Rd.
Travel from Toronto and the GTA is about a 1-hour trip by car up Highway 400 or with the regular GO Train or GO Buses running to and from Union Station in Toronto.
