Devoted to serving all house-made items along with fresh local produce, Fresh-A-Fare can be found on two locations in Barrie, and this review will take a deeper look in the one in Unit 109 on 531 Bayfield Street, Barrie, Ontario, just north of Georgian Mall.
This restaurant is located in a strip plaza, meaning there is a lot of parking space nearby for both cars and bikes. The place is very large, with plenty of seating. There are no TVs, but this restaurant is wheelchair accessible, takes reservations and packs a takeaway meal and makes deliveries. It is large enough to accommodate a large group of people and is welcoming to children.
Fresh-A-Fare serves brunch/lunch, from an exciting menu made from fresh local ingredients, as the name suggests. It is opened from Monday to Friday from 10.30 AM to 4 PM and does not work on weekends.
From the reviews, I read online on Trip Advisor, Facebook, and Google Reviews, I bring you a list of pros and cons of Fresh-A-Fare.
- Fresh local produce
- All house-made items
- Pleasant interior
- Friendly staff
- Good location with plenty of parking
- Notes about the somewhat limited menu
- Complaints about high prices
The Fresh-A-Fare has been in business since 2011. The idea about this restaurant came to the founder, Ester when she first started her other business of preparing fresh-cut produce for other restaurants in 1987, and Fresh-A-Fare was born. Their motto is real food, cooked slow, served fast, and is reflected in their policy.
The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated, in a black/orange and white theme. The floors and ceiling are black, with orange and white walls, and plenty of black and light green accents. The tables and chairs are black/orange colour, and there is a large potted plant in the middle of the restaurant, adding a bit of nature.
There is no waiter service, and people place their order at one side of the counter and take their food on the other side. The daily specials are written on a blackboard placed right at the door. The menu consists of salads, soups, sandwiches, and sweets. There are good choices of salads like a meal salad where you get to select the greens, dressing, and toppings. The soups come in plenty of options, with four soups daily and their signature cheeseburger soup served all day. There is a wide variety of sandwiches, all prepared with love and devotion and patrons get to enjoy smoked salmon, roast beef, corned beef, old-fashion ham, roasted turkey bread, Reuben, chicken salad, or a breadless sandwich. For those with a sweet tooth, there is always carrot cake and a selection of fresh-baked homemade cookies.
This restaurant cooks, cures and smokes their meat, make soups in their unique recipes and bake their bread for the sandwiches. They give a new definition to the word fast-food, as many of the items are prepared beforehand, and served quickly to the hungry people of Barrie.
