About Mattson & Co:
A bistro, fancy restaurant and a jazz lounge all combined under one roof; the Mattson & Co is a modern establishment that offers an elegant atmosphere, good food, and overall excellent experience. This place is located on 225 Locke Street South, in Hamilton, Ontario.
There is street-side parking nearby, and this place is wheelchair accessible. While there is free Wi-Fi, there is no TV and the ambience is classy, upscale, making this place not suitable for kids. It is advisable to make a reservation as this is a popular place during the weekends, especially for celebrations and romantic dinners. There is even live background music – a Jazz band that plays on weekends, that adds to the pleasant atmosphere.
Mattson & Co serves dinner only from a carefully selected menu, as well as after-dinner drinks from its full bar. The place is opened from 5 PM to 10 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5 PM to 11 PM on Thursday, 3 PM to 12 AM on Friday and Saturday and is closed on Sunday and Monday.

The Mattson & Co restaurant/jazz lounge was opened in the fall of 2015. This place has a classy atmosphere achieved by the dark gray walls with white accents, and beautiful paintings on the walls. There are gauzy white curtains on the windows, light gray ceilings with modern light fixtures and strategically placed mirrors. The tables are wooden, as are the chairs, but with dark orange upholstered seats.
The tables don’t have tablecloths, but there are beautiful centerpiece candleholders that cast a romantic glow during dinner. The menu is excellent, with starters like calamari gremolata, duck fat pork poutine, honey truffle mushroom toast, brie and goat cheese fondue, oyster and scallop gratin, mussels, and a burrata and eggplant board. There are soup and salad offer with the daily soup, apricot organic greens, authentic Caesar salad, organic goat cheese, and beet salad, and a lavender strawberry watermelon salad, and prosciutto mango salad.
The dinner menu is excellent and has items like Mattson burger, Muscovy duck breast, Mac & Meatloaf, beef short ribs, Berkshire pork belly and prawns, Artic char, beef tenderloin, and a pasta bowls and pizza section with pesto gnocchi, saffron shellfish tagliatelle, mango chicken pizza and more. The menu has a nice vegan food section, as well as a great dessert offer with items like market berry pessa, New York Cheesecake, Ontario peach, and maple crumble, chocolate hazelnut Brulee, and a Mattson chocolate brownie.
The restaurant has an amazing VQA wine list, a martini list, specialty drinks, classic vintage cocktails, a nicely curated scotch, whiskey and cognac lists. From the reviews and the things I read on this place, the Mattson & Co is a restaurant that is worth visiting, especially if you are celebrating an anniversary or another special event.
