Dragon Wok Heritage Square (South)

636 Yonge St d5, Barrie
About Dragon Wok:

A Chinese restaurant in the heart of Barrie, the Dragon Wok is a very popular takeout restaurant with two locations. The following review will take a more in-depth look into the Dragon Wok located on 636 Yonge Street, Barrie, Ontario.

This restaurant is located in a strip plaza, meaning there is a lot of available parking nearby. The place does not take reservations, but packs a takeout meal and does deliveries. There is free Wi-Fi in the restaurant and is wheelchair accessible. There is nothing more in amenities, no TV and no alcohol is served here. The place is very small inside, and can’t accommodate a large group of people, so if you and your friends are craving some Chinese food, you better order a takeout meal that can speedily be delivered to your exact location, usually for free for larger orders.

The Dragon Wok serves lunch and dinner; the business hours vary from day today. On Monday to Thursday it works from 11 AM to 9.30 PM, on Friday from 11 AM to 10.30 PM, Saturday from 12 to 10.30 PM, and Sunday from noon to 9.30 PM.

This restaurant has been reviewed online on Yelp, Google Reviews and Trip Advisor, and based on these, I’ve created the following list of pros and cons.

  • Very affordable prices
  • Large portions
  • Vegetarian options
  • Takeout and delivery
  • Fast service

  • No wait staff
  • People noted the mix-up in takeout orders

The Dragon Wok has served Chinese food to the people of Barrie since 2013. In that time, this place has become one of the most popular Chinese food takeout and delivery restaurants. The décor of the place is very, very simple. There are wooden chairs and Formica tables, and the floors and part of the walls are tiled with simple, brown tiles. The walls are off-white colour, with sparse Chinese decorations, and the inevitable Chinese lanterns.

The menu is an attractive part of this establishment. It is divided into three parts: the first part has items a la carte like appetizers, soups, sweet & sour items, fried rice, chow suey,  Shang Hai spicy thick noodles, Mein Feng/ho Feng, Cantonese egg noodles, Lo Mein, curry dishes, roast pork or beef, chicken, and seafood. The second part has special diet items, vegetarian and tofu dishes, egg foo young, combination platters and the Dragon Wok specialities like sesame chicken and General Tso’s chicken.

The third part of the menu at Dragon Wok has the lunch specials, takeout party specials and the Dragon Wok family dinner combos featuring dinner for two, three, four, five and six people, in two different variations.

The place does not have waiter service, and anyone that wants to dine in the restaurant needs to order their food at the counter and take it to their table. Many people that are regulars here call ahead, as a meal usually takes about 20-30 minutes to prepare, and have their food ready when they reach the restaurant.
