Boon Burger in Barrie is the first franchise of the famous Winnipeg boon Burger. The idea behind Boon Burger sparked after Tomas & Anneen met during their world travels. They wanted to found a restaurant with a 100% plant-based food to feed both the bodies and souls of people and their idea was realized in 2010 in Winnipeg, Canada. The name “Boon” originates from Anneen’s birthplace – Africa and it’s the African word for bean, but also means a blessing, a benefit or being thankful for something.
Today, Boon Burger is spread to 4 locations throughout Canada and this number is expected to increase in the future. The main of the restaurant is maintaining sustainability in every aspect of their work. That’s why you won’t find any plastic bags, cups, nor garbage bags anywhere in it. Instead, for the takeaway meals they use biodegradable cups and straws and in their everyday work they use exclusively compostable or recyclable materials. Their mission is to bring excellence not only in food quality but also the environment, at the same time raising the awareness about animal cruelty.
The menu in Boon Burger consists of a variety of vegan delights including burgers, poutines, salads, peace-zas (yes, pizzas), savoury spoons and vegan desserts. As a vegan burger joint, the menu of burgers is what they take pride in. You can order a healthier, vegan version of your favourite bacon burgers, BBQ sauce burgers, spicy burgers, and their international Mexican and Indian style vegan burgers. The mixture of flavours accompanied by the relaxing environment makes Boon Burgers a great place to spend lunch and dinner at with your close ones.
